SEED Awards $1,100 to Horne Street School

Elementary Math Team Selected to Receive Stuart Kahl Educational Grant Dover, N.H

November 16 - SEED is excited to announce it has awarded the Stuart Kahl Educational Grant to the Horne Street School mathematics team of Betsy Breen, Leighann Johnson, Jaayln Knox, Kerri Pike, and Patrick West. The $1,100 scholarship will be used for developing innovative math curriculum and professional development for the team.

The Stuart Kahl Educational Grant was established to recognize SEED past chair and founding member Dr. Stuart Kahl. Throughout his five years and two terms of service, Dr. Kahl played a vital role in establishing SEED funding in order to help Dover district schools implement new learning opportunities. To acknowledge his efforts and dedication, the SEED board of directors privately raised $1,100 to award a deserving teacher or team of teachers in his honor.

This second grade team was selected for constantly rethinking its practices to impact a larger student population. “The team is always reflecting on its teaching methods and analyzing best practices,” said Sue Vitko, Chair of the Grant Making Committee. “They never rest on their laurels, always striving to improve math instruction for their students.”

Co-founder of Measured Progress, an educational assessment company, Dr. Kahl has an extensive background in the education world. A former elementary and secondary teacher, Dr. Kahl earned degrees from Johns Hopkins University and the University of Colorado. To learn more about SEED, please visit
