SEED RAISES $31,000 FOR DOVER PUBLIC SCHOOLS

Encore for Education a Success

Dover, NH, April 9, 2019 – The Seacoast Educational Endowment for Dover (“SEED”), a non-profit organization that promotes academic excellence by providing innovation grants to Dover educators, is pleased to report its annual fundraiser “Encore for Education” raised more than $31,000 for innovative curriculum, tools, and professional development offerings in Dover public schools. Underwritten by Portsmouth Regional Hospital’s Dover Emergency Room Campus, the event was held at Patty B’s brand new conference and event center and featured a four-man extravaganza by Dueling Pianos of NH.

SEED’s 2019 spring grant cycle yielded dozens of grant applications to fund more than $75,000 in initiatives ranging from purchasing smart notebooks for middle school math exploration, to flexible seating options for elementary school students, to digital calibers and chrome books for high school science classes.  “As we can see from this year’s budget process, SEED funding is needed more than ever in Dover,” said SEED President, Karen Duffy. “Our intent is to provide resources for teachers to take on new initiatives to allow our students to achieve academic excellence.”

SEED was formed in 2011, in response to concerns from citizens and local businesses about Dover’s inability to back new learning initiatives that better develop career and college readiness for Dover students.  Funded strictly by community giving, SEED awards grants twice annually for projects to be implemented across the Dover school district. "The community support for this year's event was tremendous," said Natalie Koellmer, Event Committee Chair. "Thank you to all of the sponsors, donors, auction participants and attendees. Your contribution to the event will help us fund future grants and directly impact the students."

SEED’s Board has also been working to establish a trust through its Lighting the Way to Learning appeal. With the support of community organizations and individual donors, SEEDs goal is to award education grants for years to come.
